Best Birthday Party Ideas: A Birthday Idea Generator? How Cool!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Neal Lohse The Party Planning was going nowhere. In sheer exasperation the hostess yelled: “I don’t need your help, your money, or your advice. Just give me an IDEA!!” Smiling, you handed her your Birthday Idea Generator. The tears of joy were instant. A Birthday Idea Generator…what an idea. An idea on its own will not guarantee you a cool birthday. We find people simply think that the idea will solve all their headaches. Or that the idea comes with a how to manual, unlimited budget and an army of workers at your command! Some do, it’s true. They usually cost a bomb and take months to get together. Is that you? Read on it will be of use. If it’s not you, then READ ON WITH EXTREME INTEREST. “Where did you get that idea from??” It’s a great question! The answer is equally great, maybe a touch cheeky. I farm them. Huh? Seriously. And by the time you have read this article you will be farming as well. Got your plough ready? Giddy-up!In no order I think the following 10 methods of Farming Ideas work the best. I do this every week, so that when it’s time I’m ready. Create an Idea Finder This could be a ring folder, a journal, a blog or a brain dump page on a web site. The more 3D it is I find the better it is to show others and scratch additional info on. You can scribble, glue cut-outs, sketch, alter ads in papers, play with words, brainstorm gift ideas…and on and on. Whatever you need to help you remember that spark!. My favorite way is to have an artists sketch book 120pages, thick paper, spiral bound, $5. Every thought, idea, cartoon, concept, whatever!, goes in it. I’ll chew threw about 6 per year! Personalize it and make it part of your daily life. Magazines They are everywhere and the pages are full of ads or content done — usually — by professionals who get paid huge money to do this. Surf off their creativity and ability to put their ideas in graphic or text. Think about when you are killing time at the doctors waiting for an appointment, or at the mall in the food court. Down time is a goldmine! Junk Mail. Yep, you heard me correctly. Before it gets binned, scan it, consider it and file it. Total time: a minute or two tops! And you’ll get faster as your birthday idea generator brain recognizes what’s valuable. Look in the mirror! How easy. Right there in your bathroom. You are full of experiences. Look at you and look around you. Your hopes, dreams, aspirations. You are SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT LOOKS BACK AT YOU IN THE MIRROR. Visits your internal world for priceless ideas. Movies, Books, TV, Anything.. Imagine this.. the re-creation of a scene from a Jeffery Archer (UK) novel : two champion snooker players play-off for a $50,000 dollar prize necklace. True Story from 1988. A very posh party in the south of England — I got to see the jeweler’s invoice while working as an accounts clerk. I was captivated. Hit Blockbuster and let your idea brain off the leash!! Talk about kids in a candy store. OPP That’s Other Peoples Parties. One you get invites to and ones you don’t. Great to go to public places and see what happens, especially during a weekend. Suss out the food, lay out, cakes, the things that work and don’t work. Internet BE AWARE!!! Yes, somewhat down the list and a fabulous resource. BUT, BUT, BUT it can OVERWHELM, confuse and waste your time. Treat it with a firm stick, you be the master and set some guidelines around time and what you’re searching on. Search engines are very specific these days, you be as well. People Watching Just being in society means we interact with people. Watch out for what they say, how they are with each other and what they seem to enjoy. You can gather a whole lot of ideas that relate to you and your friends or family by watching other peoples’ friends and families. Ask heaps of questions A general fact finding tip. Ask discretely and then LISTEN attentively. Develop a genuine interest and ask with openness. You will be amazed at what people will tell you. Music In a class of it own. Songs are merely representation of peoples thoughts and feelings. In short, ideas in musical form. What a great place to start mining for ideas — YOUR MP3 Player!! You have your own birthday idea generator around your neck! I’ve got an Idea, now what? By going back to your hard copy birthday idea generator and adding a few notes you then turn them into valuable commodities. Answer the following questions as part of your notes is a good start: What is the idea? When could I use it? Who would I need to help with it? Why this idea? The bonus in it for you is that you do it as you go through your life. Short, sharp and over time it builds to a valuable resource of celebration planning ingredients. No more: “I don’t have any ideas…” You’re overflowing with them! And like seeds in the ground, ideas grow, flower and make more ideas. Here’s a bigger BONUS in it for you. As you’ve gathered your ideas, the bits you ad, the thoughts you jot down are all brushed with your personality. You 100%.You will be drawn to the kinds of things that you find appealing and most likely so do your friends. Sure, you are gathering other peoples art or method, but you mix them up and create you own unique, totally authentic recipe. Here is the key. Those ideas that you are drawn to… ..these ideas are the most comfortable thing to work with and the ideas that stand the greatest chance of success. Get it ?? One last TIP… A good idea farmer goes back to their field and prepares the soil, nurtures it and refines their methods. For you, read over your “ingredients” make sure you ad to them and be ready when an even better idea “pops”. It will! Housewarming: An Important Ritual

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Sara Thompson Moving is a universal experience. In our lifetime it has become rare for any person to spend their entire adult life in one home. Whether its a new apartment or a new house, we have all looked at an unfamiliar space and imagined how we will set about making it feel like our own. We picture what will go where, what will fit where, and what we will leave behind. We picture what wed like to change and are thrilled with the parts we love. Each new house is a vehicle for our imagination; it represents all of the possibilities of a new beginning and holds all of the potential for making us feel comfortable and content. Living in a new space is an exciting and often liberating experience, as we get the chance to redefine ourselves through what we create. We also get to experience the unfamiliar (think of the first night you sleep in a new house!); which can be both a comfort and discomfort at the same time. So, the furniture is in, the pictures are hung, yet the house still has that brand new, not-worn feeling. The process of creating that feeling of ‘home’ in a new house actually happens after we move all of our stuff in and feng shui until our backs ache from moving the couch. It is when we invite in the sounds of friends and family that those new rooms come together to create a home. An important way we customarily mark our passage into a new house is by having a Housewarming party. The Housewarming is one of the greatest rituals of all time-a tradition where friends, family, and neighbors help us celebrate a new beginning. There are some crucial variables to a successful housewarming: good people, good food and lots of laughter. It doesnt matter if there are five or fifty friends celebrating your move; the sounds of their laughter and yours will warm every room and transform a house into your home. Stomach Cramps Again! Could I Be Lactose Intolerant

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By B D Kenny So youve just wolfed down that large pizza with your friends and just like the last time you begin hearing some pretty unsettling noises erupting from your stomach. You quickly excuse yourself and rush home where you spend the next hour or so in and out of the bathroom. Whats wrong with me you ask? Is this food poisoning, or is it something else? It seems to occur every time I eat dairy. Could I be lactose intolerant? The definition of lactose intolerance is the inability of the large intestine to break down lactose, a type of sugar found in milk and other dairy products. It is caused by a deficiency of an enzyme called lactase, which can normally be found in the small intestine. The inability for the body to breakdown lactase has some very unpleasant side effects, discomfort and embarrassment to name just a few. Up until now, a person who suffered from the effects of lactose intolerance had one or two options; stay away from dairy altogether, which should not be considered due to the fact that the body needs certain minerals, vitamins and proteins found in dairy to stay healthy or youre forced to carry around a bottle of those chalky pills or that liquid lactase, which you have to choke down before ingesting any dairy. So what are those symptoms you ask? Well, the most common of the symptoms are gurgling noises in your stomach followed by cramps. You may also have flatulence, which may or may not be foul smelling. You may also have a very bloated feeling and may also spend some time on your porcelain friend with diarrhea, which may float and again might smell quite foul. In severe cases you may experience weight loss, malnutrition and slow growth as your body suffers from a shortage of calcium, vitamin D, riboflavin, and protein normally found in dairy. Something to keep in mind is that every human is unique and may react differently to different amounts of dairy ingested. Some sufferers are able to handle more dairy experiencing only mild side effects while others may not be able to ingest any at all without suffering from severe symptoms. Something I did not realize was that Lactose intolerance is quite common and the number of people who suffer from the symptoms really surprised me. Can you believe that there are somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30 to 50 million Americans suffering from lactose intolerance. You read that right 30 to 50 MILLION sufferers. There are also some specific ethnic and racial populations which seem to be more widely affected than others. As many as 75 percent of all African Americans and American Indians and 90 percent of Asian Americans are lactose intolerant. So while lactose intolerance is quite common, living with lactose intolerance does not mean a life sentence in your bathroom. Sufferers of lactose intolerance through research can learn which dairy products they can consume and which ones they cannot. Substitution and supplements may be for you while others may decide to use lactase liquid or tablets to aid in the digestion of dairy. Others may decide they will explore alternative methods such as homeopathy or products like Lactagen, which claim to have a 38-day program designed to solve your lactose intolerance problems once and for all. Whichever method works best for you remember that moderation and balance in any diet is the key to long term health. Contract Jobs: Is Contract Work Higher Paying Than A Fulltime Job?

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Carl Mueller Can you earn more money working on a contract than working in a fulltime job? Having spent several years specifically working as an IT recruiter filling Information Technology positions, I certainly saw my fair share of highly paid contractors. In most instances, contractors earned more money on an hourly basis than they would have earned had they been doing the same job in a fulltime capacity being paid a salary. The reason contractors tend to be paid more? With a contract job, you are typically signed to do the job for a specific length of time so accepting the contract means you’re taking yourself off the market for a fulltime position for the length of the contract. In my experience as an IT recruiter, contracts generally ran for 3, 6, or 12 months in length and could sometimes be extended, often several times. Also, with a contract position you generally don’t get paid any benefits, don’t get paid for vacation and might not be eligible for other perks that fulltime staff might otherwise be entitled to. Sometimes a contract job turned into a fulltime position later on. With contract work, I often found that once people tasted the (higher) contract money, they didn’t want to work as a fulltime employee anymore. Also, many of them liked the variety of work and the fact that they were exposed to different work environments, technologies, etc. The flipside of course is that contractors might end up finding themselves out of work for periods of time if one contract finishes and they haven’t found a new contract to go to. Then again, perhaps they could afford to take time off given the money they were earning. If you’re considering contract work you should be aware that some employers have difficulty hiring people for fulltime positions who have a track record of working contract. They often fear that if a contractor accepts their fulltime position, they will end up quitting the fulltime job the moment a more desirable (ie. better paying) contract position arises. If you’re looking at a specific contract job, you might consider why the job is being offered as a contract. Does the company simply require someone for a set period of time and are willing to pay extra for this person (ie. the position is a “typical” contract) or are they simply trying to avoid adding a fulltime employee (ie. extra headcount) which might mean they’ll simply offer you the fulltime equivalent salary for the period you would be working with no premium paid? I once experienced the latter situation and can tell you that I was simply paid the fulltime equivalent since there was a fulltime hiring freeze in the company and my manager got around it by classifying my job as “contract.” In this instance, I certainly didn’t paid get the higher “contractor” rate, that’s for sure! The good news was that after working on contract for about 9 months, I was hired as a fulltime employee so things turned out quite well for me. Treasure Hunting - Part Two

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Steven Gillman Treasure hunting begins at home. People regularly find famous old books and valuable antiques in their attics, so get up there and look. One couple opened their walls while remodeling, and found them insulated with thousands of old and valuable movie posters. In the thirties a theater owner ahd put them there. The couple sold $200,000 worth of the posters, the last I heard. There are many more ways to go treasure hunting. I used to take the old telegraph pole insulators form along train tracks, to sell for $4 each at an antique store. They were otherwise being shot to pieces by hunters over the years. The colored glass ones are usually the more valuable ones. Panning For Gold For $10 you can buy a gold pan, and start prospecting. It’s easier to see the gold in the green plastic ones. Most federal lands are open to prospectors without a permit. I’ve only seen gold in my pan in Canada (there isn’t much gold in Michigan), but people have better luck in the mountain streams of the southeast and southwest. It’s a nice way to spend an afternoon in any case. Treasure Hunting With A Metal Detector Metal detectors start under $200. I’ve found a few hundred coins, but none of them have been valuable ones. When the city tore up old sidewalks, a woman in our town used her detector to find coins . She sold one to a local coin shop for $700. A friend tells me that her husband and her have found many pieces of gold jewelry at the beach with their detector. It’s also common to use metal detectors to find gold nuggets in the southwest. Treasure Hunting In The Streets Collecting cans for 37 cents a pound is a tough way to make a living. Here in Michigan and other states, however, there’s a 10 cent deposit on every beverage container. During festivals I see people with bags of hundreds of cans they collected in the parks and garbage containers. Some travel here every year during the Cherry Festival, just to collect returnable bottles and cans that week. I spoke to a man who went to the big concerts to collect beer and pop cans in the parking areas. He said he makes over $100 in a few hours (plus the time to take them to the store). Collecting “returnables” can be an unpleasant way to make money, but an old guy in town here tells me he pays the rent doing this. Treasure hunting is about having the right frame of mind. There are treasures to be found everywhere. I once found a chest with foreign notes and coins in the crawl space under our house. Hotel owners report that visitors tuck money in the bedside bible, and forget to take it with them. Sometimes you just have to look. Steve Gillman has been studying every aspect of money for thirty years. A Gift For Dad

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Amy Herndon Lately, I’ve been thinking about my dad a lot. His birthday is coming up and there on the horizon, of course, is the great monolith that is Christmas…looming. Why are parents, dads in particular, so hard to shop for? So I’ve been thinking about my dad and wondering what keen little tidbits have been grabbing his attention lately — hoping that a gift idea will not just grab me, but knock me over. And one did. Just last night my dad dropped the idea right on me, and he didn’t even know it. Bear with me…let me tell you a little about my dad first. Dad is a member of the NRA. He’s never owned a gun in his life — the antique rifle, a hand-me down that belonged to some great-grandfather, which resides in the back of his closet doesn’t count. My dad just believes in the Constitution and most definitely in the Second Amendment. So being who and what he is, he reads his monthly NRA magazine Freedom, every page. But my dad has never been one to just accept things; he questions everything, perhaps looking for a better way. And this is the crux of the conversation that inevitably brought me the gift solution. While dicing up onions for our weekly chalupas, my dad began to tell me about the latest edition of Freedom in which six life-threatening experiences were discussed — four involved attempted home invasions, one attempted burglary of a small business, and one attempted car theft. Out of these six incidents, four of the criminals were killed and two wounded — and miraculously, only one victim was hurt. Dad and I always like to hear about the good guys coming out on top, yet something was bothering my dad this time. Hmm, a little strange. Dad isn’t soft on crime, so what could be bothering him? “Simple,” he says. “People shouldn’t die for dumb mistakes.” Okay. That’s true. “But Dad, those people died committing a crime, and what about the victims? Don’t they have a right to protect themselves and their property?” I asked. “Well, of course. But there has to be a better way. I just know that if it was me that had killed some sneaky, lowlife burglar, I would feel bad about it…,”Dad said letting his answer just kind of drift off like his thoughts. Maybe Dad was finished with the subject, but I was just getting started. My brain was lit up like a Christmas tree — I had an idea, finally. I had my gift solution. What do you give a guy, your dad, who already has almost everything, who’s a member of the NRA — but doesn’t own a gun? Oh, man. It was so crystal clear to me, almost blinding with the sparkles…a Taser! What? Yeah, really. A Taser. It is perfect. A Taser is non-lethal and more effective than a 9mm handgun, that is, it knocks down that pesky criminal faster, harder, and more completely than a 9mm handgun. And the best part? That pesky criminal won’t be getting up again any time soon thanks to Electro-Muscular Disruption Technology (sounds a little Star Trek-ish, doesn’t it?); a Taser actually over-rides your target’s central nervous system. (I can almost hear Capt. Kirk now “Phasers on stun.”) But the absolute, best part…my dad would be able to defend his home and himself and still have a clear conscience. Yeah, that’s my gift solution for my dad. Amy Herndon is an authority on self defense. Herb Garden Design

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Bill McRea Since ancient times, large gardens have been used for growing vegetables, flowers, fruits and medicines. These gardens are called herb gardens. Some common plants grown are rosemary, parsley, sage, marjoram, thyme, mint, rue, angelica, bay and basil. Herb garden designs can be useful or ornamental depending on the kind of plants grown in them. Herb garden designs of medieval and Renaissance Europe period are a big influence for herb gardeners today. Practical as well as ornamental, formal herb gardens laid out in simple beds date back to medieval Europe and continue to be popular today. It is very easy and inexpensive to maintain a herb garden. By practice the herb gardener can be an expert. Keeping in mind the modern times, herbs used can be differentiated as: Culinary herbs Medicinal herbs Ornamental herbs. Culinary herbs are the most popular herbs like rosemary, parsley that are very easily grown and contains both annual and perennial varieties. You can also grow medicinal herbs but extracting the medicines from them is not an easy procedure. Ornamental herbs are the otherwise useless herbs, which have shown to have no medicinal value, but because of their beauty or just to add soft foliage to the garden they are still grown. Traditional herb garden designs do not always suit our modern needs. Some of the preferred designs today are as follows: Herb container gardening For beginners, container herb gardening is the best bet. They are very easy to manage and are flexible enough to be changed often. Pots or containers of different color, pattern and texture add a character to an otherwise dull and green garden. Some herbs like rosemary, which are better to keep indoors during winters, can be brought in without any fuss. Containers are easy and fun to use and soil mixtures can be adjusted without much hard work to suit specific plant needs. Raised bed herb gardens Somewhat related to container herb gardens, raised bed gardens are a great herb garden design technique which allows us to amend the soil, since many herbs require more drainage than what the soil can allow. Plants like mint or weed can prove troublesome if planted loosely without planning, and this is where raised bed herb garden designs help. Parterre This design gives the garden a formal and elegant look. You have to simply segment your garden into different areas for different herbs you plan to grow and hedge them in. The most popular plant used for hedging is the dwarf English boxwood. Large boxwoods can be used at the corners and junctions to add height and visual interest and a sculpture or sundial would give a nice finishing touch. Planting of herbs in threes and fives allows the eye to register the plant and move over to other groups without troubling our vision. This is a common technique used in most herb garden designs. Roses Roses are one of the earliest and original inhabitants of the herb gardens. They prefer drier and sunny conditions and the foliage of the herbs provides a perfect foil for the rose blossoms. Rosa rugosa is a great rose for the herb garden both historically and aesthetically. Herb garden designs are not too hard to maintain and can be done even by a beginner who would acquire the skills in the process. All level of skilled gardeners can try their hand in herb gardening and enjoy its simple yet effective results. Gardening and landscaping are one of life’s simple joys. Start A Collection

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Lisa Lambson A couple of years ago, I was just at the point of exploding. I had been taking care of everyone but me, and one Saturday afternoon when I couldnt take it anymore, I laid the kids down for naps and woke my husband up from his, and told him I would be back in a couple of hours and asked him to keep the laundry going if you wanted clothes to wear to work on Monday. I jumped in the car and off I went. I got about two blocks before I pulled over and turned off the car. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror and said, Where are you going? I had no idea what I wanted to do. I hadnt done anything just for pleasure in so long, I couldnt remember what I really enjoyed. As I sat there thinking, I remembered all the time my mother spent cleaning and rearranging her antique dishes collection. She loved those dishes, and whenever she needed her space you would find her with them or out scouring for more. I started my car and headed for the nearest flea market. As I was driving, I thought about different things that I might like to collect. Now, just a couple of years later, I have quite a few collections of my own, including antique dishes, and I have my own peace and happiness from something I created just for me. Choosing What You Want To Collect To begin your collection, thing about some of the things that interest you. Decide if you want to collect items just for the enjoyment of collecting or if you would be more interested in collecting items that may become valuable investments. For example, if you are doing it strictly for your enjoyment, you may think about a specific animal you like. I have a very large cow collection taking over my kitchen. My sister redecorated a room in her house in the trendy fruit motifs, and she now has quite a collection of fruit dcor items. Other ideas are teapots, hats, movie memorabilia, buttons, pens, angels, fairies, t-shirts, or candles. Anything that captures your fancy can get you started. My husband has a matchbook collection that he takes great enjoyment from. He just gets a kick out of unusual matchbooks from different locations. If you would prefer something that will increase in value, you may be more inclined to collect items such as antique dishes, comic books, Disney memorabilia, stamps, coins, or any of the collectible lines that are available today, for example, Boyds Bears, Precious Moments, SnowBabies or Dea Capodimonte of Naples, Italy. Chasing Down Great Deals Once you have decided what to collect, the joy of the hunt begins. My favorite places to go for my treasures are always the places where I can find the ultimate deals. Yard sales, flea markets, consignment shops and thrift stores are always my first stops. It is amazing what wonderful things you can find for next to nothing. In recent years, collectors have had the joy of a whole new market opening up to them via the Internet. With the Internet, you have access to the entire world rather than just your local area. Online auctions are an incredible resource for finding items to add to your collection and getting some great deals. Researching Your Collectibles There are quite a few good collectibles shows on television, such as Flea Market Finds on HGTV, The Incurable Collector on A&E, and of course, The Antiques Roadshow. If your hobby becomes a passion, you will want to invest in a good price guide. There are specialized guides for specific items and general guides that cover a wide range of objects. It is important to look for a guide that gives you product background, company information and a history of the item. I always look for the price guides that provide detailed pictures and information about markings, number produced and year of production. Also, make sure to buy the most current guide available. Browse some guides at your local library first, to get a feel for what youre looking for before you choose which one to buy. Lisa Lambson is a married, mother of four that recently left the workforce to freelance. “I made this choice to show my children that there are ways to support your family independently and maintain your family presence the way that you choose. I want my children to understand that they do not have to be caught in a job they don’t like waiting to be downsized. I choose to use my passion for writing to teach them to never give up on their passions.” Lisa has been published in print in a magazine named Balance that, unfortunately, is no longer published and in a newspaper for work at home moms called Connecting At Home. She also has numerous articles published and circulating on the internet on hundreds of websites. She can write about any topic and there is nothing she loves more than to learn something new or meet someone new to get to know. Her work stands for itself as she works carefully, quickly and pays great attention to detail.http://216.147.57.116/index.shtml Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Lisa_Lambson http://EzineArticles.com/?Start-A-Collection&id=196546 buy fast online ultram buy tramadol with paypal buy ultram where order ultram on line
